Department or Program Overview: Established in 1998, the Fair Board shall have the exclusive management of the Columbia County Fairgrounds and shall have such other powers and duties as are spelled out for it under ORS 565.210 through 565.330.
The fairgrounds are a vital part of the County and the site of many events from weddings to rodeos. The grounds were used as an evacuation center for people and livestock during wildfires and as a site for covid testing and vaccination events. We have a vision of establishing a multi-use facility to serve as an event venue, evacuation center as well as fill a myriad of other needs for county residents.
The Fair Board shall consist of three to no more than seven members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners (the Board).
Meeting Schedule and Location: Monthly at the Columbia County Fairgrounds.
General Statement of Duties:
- Members shall adhere to membership requirements.
- Members shall meet regularly and attend adopt adequate by-laws to govern its meetings and business.
- Members shall adhere to all state laws, rules, and regulations regarding conflict of interest and rules of ethics for public officials.
- The Fair Board shall manage fundraising efforts to improve the grounds and facilities.
- The Fair Board may adopt rules, regulations and fee schedules, consistent with ORS 565.230 and 565.240, necessary for the proper conduct and management of the Columbia County Fair and other events authorized by the Fair Board.
- Monies received from activities conducted at the Fair or at the Fairgrounds or its facilities, and all moneys received by the Fair as the licensee for pari-mutuel wagering on races conducted at or on behalf of the Fair shall be deposited in a separate, dedicated, Columbia County Fair Fund.
- The Fair Board shall conduct its affairs consistent with ORS 565.210 through 565.330 and the ordinances, policies and budget adopted by the Board of County Commissioners.

Additional Training: Volunteer Orientation training will be provided.
